SPANISH FOR DEACONS AND DEACON WIVES

ANIS FOR DEA AND DEACON WIVES

Several months ago I asked you to respond if you would be interested in taking a beginning Spanish Course and over 30 of you responded positively.  Mrs. Linda O’Keefe, who teaches at Providence H.S. as well as our 2013 Class, has agreed to teach our deacons and wives.  The Class of 2013 speaks very highly of Linda.   We have scheduled a 10 week course for Thursday evenings, 7-9pm here at the Pastoral Center beginning on September 22nd.  The tuition for the course will be $100 per deacon, which will be billed to your parish. All course materials will be supplied. To encourage wives to attend, wives can attend free.  This will give you someone to practice with.   If you register for this course, please plan to attend all of the sessions.

A three-part bereavement workshop, co-sponsored by The Center for Family Ministry and The Office of Divine Worship will be held for persons who are new to this ministry.  This training, developed by National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved, Inc.  (NCMB), will use NCMB’s new edition, Copyright ©2006.   Attendance at all three sessions is required.  Focus areas will include the grief process, communication skills, setting up the parish program (including the Order of Christian Funerals), caring for the minister, and support groups.  Presenters will be Desirée Marciani, associate director of The Center for Family Ministry and Sr. Sharon Marie Stola, director of The Office of Divine Worship.  Both women have extensive experience in bereavement ministry.  You must attend all three sessions to receive a certificate of completion.

Dates:               Saturday, Oct 8;   Saturday, Oct 15;    Saturday, Oct 22

Time:                Oct 8 and 15 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct 22 – 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Place:               St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center, Romeoville

Cost:                 The $75 fee covers participant manuals, handouts, continental breakfast and lunch on 10/8 and 10/15, and continental breakfast on 10/22.

CHANTING THE PARTS OF THE MASS CAN ENHANCE OUR PRAYER

OCTOBER 24   7:30P.M. AT THE ST. CHARLES PASTORAL CENTER CHAPEL

 

With the use of the Third Typical Edition of the Roman Missal the priests and deacons will be encouraged to chant their parts of the Mass.   The chant that is presented in the Roman Missal is not very difficult and many of you will be able to learn how to do it.   Singing as St. Augustine told us is 'praying twice'.  Come on October 24 and let your voice assist your parishioners in 'praying twice'.
