St. Patrick’s in Joliet to Offer Reflections on Peace Talk; Arts and Craft Fair; and Our Lady of Guadalupe and Las Posadas Celebrations in the Next Two Months

The Theology Department of the University of St. Francis cordially invites you to its inaugural Four Reflections on Peace at her University Chapel (500 Wilcox St. in Joliet) on Wednesday, November 19 starting at 7 p.m. Spiritual Leaders from the Hindu, Jewish, Christian and Catholic religions will offer unique perspectives on the subject of World Peace with an opportunity for conversation afterwards.

The list of speakers includes the following:

— Rudra Raju from the Greater Hindu Temple in Lemont

— Rabbi Charles Rubovits from the Joliet Jewish Congregation Synagogue

— Pastor Craig Herr from the First Presbyterian Church in Joliet

— Father Peter Jankowski, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church and adjunct professor of the University of St. Francis

A social will follow the reflections, where students from the university’s world religion class will offer presentations on the religions of the world. Members of the university’s music program will also provide music for the evening. There is no cost and all are invited. St. Patrick’s Council of Catholic Women invites you to their annual Arts & Crafts Fair on Sunday, December 7, in St. Patrick’s Gym (110 Willow Ave. Joliet) from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Admission $1.00 for those 18 and over; free for those 17 and under. St. Patrick’s Church (710 West Marion St. in Joliet) is hosting a bilingual Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration on Friday, December 12, in the church. The festivities will begin with the traditional Las Mañanitas celebration at 5 a.m., led by a Mariachi Group, courtesy of Rio Grande Market. At 7 p.m., a special Mass will be celebrated, followed by a free social with children providing authentic Mexican dancing. There is no cost for the event and all are invited. St. Patrick’s Church (710 West Marion St. in Joliet) is hosting a bilingual Las Posadas Celebration on Sunday, December 21, at 6 p.m. in the church. Las Posadas (literally, “the inns”) commemorates Mary and Joseph’s travels through Bethlehem, being rejected by one innkeeper after another until they reach their stable, where Jesus was born. There will be prayer followed by piñatas, Mexican hot chocolate and pastries to follow. There is no cost for the event and all are invited.
