As part of its 2017-2018 Cathedral Music Series, the Cathedral of Saint Raymond Nonnatus announced today its annual Christmas concert titled “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”.
This program will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., and features carols and choral music as sung by the Cathedral choirs under the direction of James Grzadzinski, director of music, assisted by Richard Siegel, associate organist.
“The Epiphany commemorates the Magi visiting the Infant Christ, presenting traditional gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh,” said Grzadzinski. “By offering a program of sacred music on this day in the liturgical calendar, we recognize the opportunity for every person to offer the gifts of time and talent to God.”
Traditionally, the Christmas season begins with the celebration of Christmas and continues until the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. The cathedral musicians hope that this musical offering inspires others to keep the hope of the Christmas season alive throughout the year, sharing their gifts with one another.
The program will feature music by Handel, Saint-Saëns, Willcocks, Sowerby, Chenoweth, Hoover, Rutter, Nestor, Siegel, and more. A free-will offering benefits the cathedral’s sacred music program. Ample free parking is available on the cathedral campus.
The Cathedral Music Series is thankful for the continued support and generosity of those attending its programs. With questions and for more information, please contact the Cathedral Music Office at 815.722.6653, ext. 222, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
