Letter to Teachers:

March 18, 2020

Dear Diocese of Joliet Teachers:

As we move through this difficult time together, I want to express my gratitude and admiration for the work that all of you are doing. If you ever doubted the importance of your vocation as a Catholic school teacher, I hope that this time has confirmed the tremendous influence and power that you have to shape young lives, inspire others to greatness, and encourage growth in virtue.

The work you are doing to provide a Catholic education to your students while our schools are closed is an inspiration to all of us. Your professionalism, dedication to our Catholic school mission, and genuine faith lived for others is an inspiration to all of us. Yesterday I had a conference call with the diocesan school principals. All of them expressed how impressed they were by your dedication and how grateful they are to you for your teaching, creativity, patience and generosity during this difficult time.  I want you to know how grateful all of us at the Catholic Schools Office are to all of you. If there is anything that my office or I can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to write or call.

Let’s us continue to draw near to Our Lord and one another in prayer during this time. May Our Lady, Mother of Catholic Schools, grant her guidance and protection to all of our students, their families, to those directly suffering from the coronavirus and everyone suffering as a result of it.

Gratefully yours in Christ,

Father John Belmonte, SJ
Superintendent of Catholic Schools
Diocese of Joliet
