PRAISE IN THE PARK Concert
Brings Parishes Together in Christ

On Sunday afternoon, August 24, families and friends from various parishes gathered together in song and worship, by the Millennium Carillon for the Praise in the Park celebration. The Praise in the Park Choir, led by contemporary Catholic recording artists Jorge Rivera, Aaron Thompson, and John Angotti, was formed by members of the several sponsoring parishes. Naperville Carillonneurs rang in their praise with a few special performances on the 72-bell tower. Some the parishes that attended the free concert in the River Walk Park of Naperville included Holy Spirit Catholic Community, Sts. Peter and Paul, St. Margaret Mary, St. Elizabeth Seton, St. Joan of Arc, St. Scholastica, St. Thomas the Apostle, Our Lady of Mercy, and St. Raphael.   “As we commit ourselves to Christ and grow in His friendship, it’s important to bring others along with us,” said Bishop Peter Sartain in a note addressed to the concert goers. “As Catholics, we know that being Christian means to evangelize...and to evangelize is to bring others to Christ.” Through their words and music, that’s what the singers succeeded in doing.     For more information visit www.praiseinpark.com

Second Book Of
Pope’s Spiritual Thoughts Series To Honor Saint Paul

Paul Henderson, USCCB publishing director, views the release of the Pope’s book on St. Paul as “a timely opportunity for Catholics to join the Pope and return to the Bible as the source of parish and personal renewal.” He added that the book series can also “help Catholics become better acquainted with their universal leader.” Benedict XVI opened the Jubilee Year of St. Paul on June 29, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. The Year of St. Paul includes a church-wide campaign to promote biblical literacy among Catholics. “Americans experienced the Holy Father’s warm and humble demeanor for the first time last April,” said Father David Toups of the Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations, recalling the Pope’s visit to the United States. “The book series is an opportunity...”     continue story
