Matching Gifts are dollars that your employer may donate to the charity of your choice in order to match your own personal donation.
In 2008 more than 247 diocesan family members gave over $52,841 to the Matching Gift program. That support enabled the diocese to assist seminarians at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein and Conception Seminary College in Missouri. Thirty-seven of our Catholic elementary schools also received Matching Gifts through the Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal.
Parish elementary schools should have a brochure listing companies that make matching gifts. The list is not all inclusive, however—there are other companies, particularly smaller employers, which offer matching gift programs and are not listed in this brochure. Please remind donors that the best source to find out if their company will match their gift is usually the Human Resource Dept. at their company.
To qualify for a matching gift in the Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal, the intent to match must be noted at the time of the original pledge. Then, please send the following to the Development Department:
- *The donor check payable to the school
- The company’s matching gift program paperwork. If the gift is being made on line, that should be so noted on the pledge card.
- The completed Catholic Ministries Appeal pledge card
The individual’s donation will be credited as a gift to the Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal and will count toward the parish goal. The Development Office will return the check and matching gift paperwork to the school after it has been credited.
