  • David Spesia discussed the issue of evangelization and requested input on how to better engage the laity.
  • Dennis Donnellan discussed pastoral planning and the progress seen at the parish level. 
  • Members also discussed the vacancies on the Council, as well as the roles and duties of Council members. 
  • Bishop Conlon provided an update on Curia staffing efforts to better serve parishes in their work.


  • Election of officers was held

  • David Spesia, with guest Greg Kremer from RENEW, presented a new program, “Be My Witness” available to parishes, and Council members provided feedback and suggestions to Bishop Conlon. 
  • Dennis Donnellan provided data feedback from Curia Consultants about parish progress in pastoral planning. 
  • Bishop Conlon provided updates on the Year of Mercy and the World Meeting of Families, and reflected on the death of Bishop Imesch. 
  • Sheila Stevenson was introduced as the new Director of Young Adult and Youth Ministry.


  • Bishop Conlon expressed his thanks to members completing their terms on the Pastoral Council.

  • Bishop Conlon announced the hiring of staff in the Hispanic Ministry Office, Family Ministry Office and Catholic Education Foundation.
  • Bishop Conlon announced the construction of a new space at the Blancette Catholic Center to allow Catholic Charities to move their offices near the rest of the diocesan Curia. They will sell their current building on Ottawa Street in Joliet, IL.
  • Members discussed their local deanery meetings, and the topic of Pastoral Planning.
  • Members were invited to send their suggestions for attendees to the USCCB Convocation taking place in Orlando, FL in 2017.
