Evangelization & Catechesis Secretariat

The human person longs to hear the Good News, and so Jesus sends his disciples out to announce the Kingdom of God and to transform the world.   The offices that comprise the Evangelization and Catechesis Secretariat help parishes and schools respond to this great missionary mandate.  Sharing the saving news of the Gospel -- evangelization -- naturally leads to handing on the fullness of the faith we have received -- catechesis.  This work involves the lifelong effort to form people to be witnesses of Christ.

Pope Francis reminds us in the Joy of the Gospel: "In our day Jesus' command to 'go and make disciples' echoes in the changing scenarios and ever new challenges to the Church's mission of evangelization, and all of us are called to take part in this new mssionary 'going forth'.  Each Christian and every community must discern the path that the Lord points out, but all of us are asked to obey his call to go forth from our own comfort zone in order to reach all the 'peripheries' in need of the light of the Gospel"  [EG, n.20].

The Evangelization & Catechesis Secretariat is comprised of the following agencies:

Catholic Schools Office
    --Catholic Education Foundation
Office of Lay Formation
Religious Education Office

As Blessed John Paul II wrote, "...the definitve aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Chirst:  only he can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy Trinity"  (Catechesi tradendae, n. 5).
