St. Mary of Vernon Parish in Indian Creek, IL (Vernon Hills) is an active, vibrant, and relatively young parish of only 31 years, having about 2000 households, and definitely thriving in the spirit and mission of Vatican Council II. We are currently seeking a full-time Director of Religious Education whose role involves overseeing and planning for the religious education of about 700 children from kindergarten through 8th grade. DRE responsibilities include oversight of the regular RE programs, sacrament preparation, class for special needs students, Liturgy of the Word for Children, RCIA for children and other activities in place. The DRE will recruit, train and supervise catechists and support staff, and assist in the parish’s effort for life-long faith formation through the RE programs. This person will report to the pastor and collaborate with parish staff. Requirements are consistent to those requested from Archdiocesan OFCYM: Graduate degree in theology, religious education or a related field or 5+ years experience and a file established with OFCYM; Consideration given to someone working towards such a degree and diocesan recognition with significant experience.
