Accompanist
St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 820 Division, Lisle, IL  60532


Position Title:        Accompanist
Pay Scale:            Stipend – per service or rehearsal
Reports to:            Director of Music

Responsibilities

  • Rehearsal and Mass Accompanist for Parish Choir.  The Parish Choir sings from early September through mid/late June (Solemnity of Corpus Christi)

o    Rehearsals:  Tuesday evenings, 7:30pm to 9:30pm
o    Sunday Liturgy:  9:30am Mass (8:45am call)  

  • Accompanist for Parish Choir for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, Holydays of Obligation (when the parish choir sings), First Communion, Confirmation, Graduation, and other liturgical celebrations at which the Parish Choir sings
  • Rehearsal and Mass Accompanist for Elementary Choir.  The Elementary Choir sings for Student Body Masses during the school year.

o    Rehearsals:  Tuesday afternoons, 1:30pm to 3:15pm
o    Student Body Mass:  Friday mornings (when school is in session), 8:15am

  • Accompanist for Elementary Choir for All Saints Program, Christmas Eve, Lights of Lisle Concert, Holydays of Obligation, and other liturgical celebrations at which the Elementary Choir sings (for example – Feast of St. Benedict, Feast of St. Joan of Arc)
  • Substitute accompanist at additional liturgies, when needed (ie, weekend liturgies, funerals, weddings)


This position can be filled by one person, or it can be split into two (2) individual positions – Accompanist for Parish Choir, and Accompanist for Elementary Choir.

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Highly-Proficient on organ; able to effectively lead congregation through hymn playing; thorough knowledge and understanding of organ registration; advanced capability to play solo repertoire and also for improvising
  • Proficient on piano; able to lead congregation through hymn playing;  solo repertoire and improvising skills helpful
  • Capable and comfortable with sight-reading;  ability to play individual parts from choral score or chord/lead sheet; comfortable with teaching parts and leading pre-service rehearsal (when needed)
  • Basic understanding and familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgy and rituals

 

The individual will be subject to a background check, and will also be required to attend a Protecting God’s Children workshop.
