Interaction with Clusters

Parishes are grouped into clusters within the six deaneries of the Diocese. A man and a woman from each cluster serve on the Diocesan Pastoral Council, representing their own particular cluster.

As a result of Assembly ’98, the Diocesan Pastoral Council concentrated on the topics of clustering, lay ministry and diversity. Discussions surfaced the need for collaboration, sharing of information, programs and resources among parishes. Clusters of parishes were already established and seemed to be the most logical structure for use. Some Council members had already established a relationship with their cluster parishes but those who had not were not sure how or where to begin.

To increase communication and to interact with others in the cluster, Council members are asked to meet with pastors and/or parish council presidents at least three times per year preferably before each Council meeting. This allows Council members to share information from the previous Council meeting as well as for parish council persons to voice their suggestions and/or concerns to the Council.

Cluster meetings are the responsibility of both representatives from the cluster. An invitation is sent directly to parish council presidents where possible. Pastors, any appointed members, deacons or religious on the DPC who reside in the cluster are also invited.
