A NEW POPE IS ELECTED!

Joliet, IL (April 19, 2005) Upon hearing the news that a new Pope was elected, Bishop Joseph Imesch stated, "With the Church throughout the world we rejoice on the election of a new Pope, Benedict XVI. The Church looks forward with expectation to the ministry of the newly elected Pope. Having served for more than 20 years as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the new Pope is very familiar with the workings of the Roman Curia. As John Paul II's theological advisor he would meet weekly with the Holy Father."

The Bishop continued, "I am sure he, perhaps more than any other Cardinal, would have known the mind of the Holy Father on every matter. We pray that the Spirit will guide him in this tremendous responsibility of leading the Church in the years ahead. May he be a Good Shepherd in leading his people."
