HIV / AIDS Education
In 2000, the Diocese of Joliet recommitted itself to the education of children, youth, and adults to the pandemic known as AIDS. Although the number of AIDS related deaths have decreased, there is an increasing number of HIV infected persons within the United States. As of December 2000, 322,865 Americans have been diagnosed with HIV. Globally, HIV/AIDS has infected 50 million persons, 20 million who have died. The initial success of the HIV education plan allows the Religious Education Office to explore ways of enlightening Catholics of the issue. Resources are continuously being obtained to assure effective education.
