Leadership Formation

"The single most critical factor in an effective parish catechetical program is the leadership of a professionally trained parish catechetical leader."  (National Directory for Catechesis, 224)

The best thing you can do for yourself and for those you serve is to engage in regular and ongoing professional and personal formation. The boundary between the two is rather thin - anything you do for yourself will benefit others in your parish, from the staff to the parents of students, to adults in the pews. The time you spend learning and growing will be invaluable. Here are some suggestions for ways you can enrich your understanding of Catholic faith and ministry skills.

Catechist Certification - basics for beginning leaders
Newman Institute - Lay ministry formation options in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Chicago and Benedictine University
University of Dayton VLCFF Certificates - online certificate programs in Catechesis,
Adult Formation Leadership, Foundations for Leadership in Ministry
(note, leaders already working on parish staffs may be eligible for Catholic Education Foundation financial assistance)
USCCB Leadership Institute: video recordings of webinars about leadership skills and areas of ministry
Formational Webinars - professional development from several sources
