How to Evaluate Faith Formation Texts
Contact: Any text currently on the Conformity Listing of Catechetical Texts and Series from the USCCB Committee on the Catechism may be used in faith formation sessions. However, it is important to realize that the Bishops only evaluate orthodoxy, not pedagogy (teaching methodology). Not every text is effective with young people, and not every text will be a good "fit" for your catechists, students, parents and faith community. Therefore, it is imperative before adopting any new text, that a careful review process take place involving parish leadership, those who will teach, and even a few parents of those who will be instructed.
