Prior to the revision of the diocesan policy about sexual abuse, an ad hoc committee, the Independent Advisory Group, was formed. Its members were responsible to examine the policy in order to ensure its conformity with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. In addition to the Independent Advisory Group, the diocese sought recommendations of people willing to provide assistance through parish bulletins and the diocesan Web site. Some 35 people responded to that request. Members of the Diocesan Pastoral Council were also invited to express their opinions. Since the Independent Advisory Group's work concluded with the publication of the Pastoral Policy Regarding Sexual Abuse of Minors on June 1, 2003, the Group no longer exists.
