Social Concerns Secretariat

The Social Concerns Secretariat seeks to help the Church of Joliet take seriously the commands of the Gospel to engage the world with the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. With charity and justice, our focus is to address the basic human needs and defend the basic human rights of everyone, especially the most vulnerable, in our midst.

Pope Francis reminds us in the Joy of the Gospel, "We are called to find Christ in the poor, to lend our voice to their causes, but also to be their friends, to listen to them, to speak for them and to embrace the mysterious wisdom which God wishes to share with us through them." It is to this message that the Social Concerns Secretariat is dedicated.

The Secretariat is comprised of Catholic Charities and the Office for Human Dignity

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19
