The L.O.S.S. Program, founded by Father Charles Rubey of the Archdiocese of Chicago, is a collaborative effort between Catholic Charities in Diocese of Joliet and the Archdiocese of Chicago. The program offers support to those who have lost a loved one–relative or friend–to suicide. It offers a “safe” place for survivors to tell their stories and express their feelings with those who have walked a similar path. L.O.S.S. groups meet regularly at the following locations:

Medical Mission to Bolivia - Peace & Social Justice Ministry
The Diocese of Joliet Medical Mission is a not-for-profit, ecumenical ministry sponsored by the Joliet Diocese Peace and Social Justice Ministry. Our first mission site has been established in Sucre, Bolivia upon the invitation of Archbishop Jesus Perez. Teams travel to Bolivia, for two weeks, twice yearly in April and October. Working in the barrios of Sucre, our medical missionaries offer their talents in general, plastic, orthopedic, oral, and ophthalmologic surgery. In addition, the team is involved with pediatric care, dentistry, cardiology, and general health concerns. In 2000 we opened a new 44 bed hospital to better serve the needs of Sucre.

Mission to the Navajo Reservation - Peace & Social Justice Ministry
Please join us at the St. Charles Pastoral Center in Romeoville at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 or Thursday, January 20, 2005 for an Information Night on the fourth annual mission to the Navajo Reservation. The trip is planned for June 4th – 18th, 2005 to repair homes for the poor of the Navajo Reservation and assist St. Michael’s Indian School in Arizona. This construction mission needs skilled and semi-skilled workers in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical, as well as men and women who are willing to learn a variety of construction tasks. Opportunities to meet the people and to learn the local culture are part of this mission.

University Mission for college students - Peace & Social Justice Ministry
While in Sucre, students from Lewis University, Benedictine University, St. Francis University, College of DuPage, Elmhurst College, Joliet Junior College and North Central College minister in several orphanages, day care centers, a home for delinquent boys, a home for abandoned boys, the hospital built by the our diocese as well as clinics in the barrios. This is a two week mission/retreat experience usually during June. The all inclusive cost is $1,300.
