History of the Women's Commission

A Washington Conference on women's issues and concerns was held in February of 1994.  Subsequent discussions were held regarding the possibility of establishing a Women's Commission in the Diocese of Joliet.

1994

In 1994, an Ad Hoc Committee on the Women's Commission was established.

1995

A subcommittee of the Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) worked on the details of forming the Diocesan Women's Commission.

1996

The subcommittee concluded its work by presenting proposals for the structuring of a women's commission to the DPC.  An organizational Committee for the Women's Commission was formed.

1997

A mission statement for Women's Commission was drafted by the Organizational Committee.

1998

We Bring the Gifts That Differ, a day for women of the Diocese, was held at St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center on May 9.  Elements for a provisional constitution were finalized.  The Organizational Committee for the Women's Commission ceased.

1999

The first meeting of the Joliet Diocesan Women's Commission was held on January 23 at St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center.

2000

We Come to Tell Our Story, a day for women of the Diocese, was held at St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center on March 25.
