In the Sacramentary, there are a whole bunch of different versions of the various prayers and prefaces and different texts the priests use throughout Mass. Some of them are designated for special feasts and times of the year so we might not often, or ever hear them depending on when we go to Mass.
I think the Common Preface IV is reserved for use during weekday Masses only and I just think it is a beautiful, beautiful reminder of the gift that gratitude is. It goes:
It is truly right and just,
our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks.
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
For, although you have no need of our praise,
yet our thanksgiving is itself your gift,
since our praises add nothing to your greatness
but profit us for salvation,
through Christ our Lord.
So, maybe it's just me, but I find that to be such a beautiful thing that my praise of God is in fact a gift back to me.
