college ministry

a Catholic outreach to young adults 18 to 25

coordinated by the Diocese of Joliet

Being Catholic in the college years (18 to 25) can be difficult at times.

This ministry exists to provide engaging and relevant opportunities for

networking, support, and spirituality for those in this stage in their lives.

Our goal is to help college student connect with God, the Catholic Church,

the mission of the Church in the world, and a supportive peer community.

Some Resources for Collegiate Young Adults

Catholic and College Bound: Five Challenges and Five Opportunities (by George R. Szews, ACTA Publications, 2008) is a great little book for anyone heading off to college (or even students around in college).

The author outlines five things that will challege college students' faith and well-being on campus, and then gives students five great ways to overcome obstacles and develop strong faith lives while away at school.

Ready for College: Everything You Need to Know (by Michael Francis Pennock, Sorin Books/Ave Maria Press, 1997/2005 rev.) is a basic guidebook about the transition from high school to a new life on a college campus.

This book is also helpful by providing a spiritual dimension that encourages college students to develop an ongoing relationship with Jesus through the practice of their faith and maintain a spritual fitness based on the values taught by their familes and churches.

Losing Your Religion, Finding Your Faith: Spirituality for Young Adults

(by Fr. Brett C. Hoover, Paulist Press, 1998) is a great read for any college students who strugle with their faith.

According to Fr. Brett Hoover, losing one's religion is just a part of our growth process, but what really defines us is the real challenge to find a vibrant, honest, and relevant adult appreciation of faith and belief.  On a college campus, this is a great resource when questions and doubt arise.
