Year of the Eucharist: "Bread of Life, Covenant of Love" is a 15-month event in the Diocese of Joliet, beginning April 1, 2010 (Holy Thursday) and continuing until June 26, 2011(the feast of The Body and Blood of Christ). Bishop J. Peter Sartain announced the following goals for the Year of the Eucharist:

• To bring about spiritual renewal in the Diocese of Joliet through the Eucharist and all liturgical life
   
• To foster appreciation for the Sacrament of Penance
   
• To prepare for and implement the revision of the Roman Missal by placing the revision in its proper theological, spiritual, and pastoral context
   
• To reach out to Catholics who have distanced themselves from the Church and welcome them home
   
• To participate in the worldwide “Year for Priests,” declared by Pope Benedict XVI, June 19, 2009 – June 19, 2010
