Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Holds 39th Annual Woman of the Year Mass and Luncheon

On April 29,  the Joliet Diocesan Council of Catholic Women held their 39th Annual Woman of the Year Mass and Luncheon. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Kindness Begins with Me.” The Greek word for “kind” is chrestos. Part of its meaning is useful, which makes it clear that biblical kindness involves action which includes some kind of self-sacrifice and therefore generosity especially of time.  The action includes word…encouraging words of comfort and courtesy, compliments, etc.

The tradition of the Woman of the Year is to celebrate women of faith who are the living examples of kindness. “She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. She opens her mouth in wisdom; kindly instruction is on her tongue” (Proverbs 31:20, 26).

Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Siegel presided at the Mass, along with Father John Sebahar, the spiritual advisor of the Joliet Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, and 70 parish presidents from throughout the diocese were honored. A luncheon attended by more than 300 people was held after Mass at the cathedral. It was a beautiful celebration to honor these women of faith and to thank them for all their dedicated work.
