Catholic Education Foundation of Diocese of Joliet gets $2,000 increase to 4-year, high school scholarships funded by Kazma Family Foundation

The Catholic Education Foundation of the Diocese of Joliet is proud to announce the Kazma Family Foundation is increasing its four-year, high school scholarships by $2,000 each, beginning with the current 2021-22 academic year.

The additional donation brings the annual scholarship award to $6,000, which can reach $8,000 through an incentive program based on honor roll status.

Leigh-Anne Kazma, president of the Kazma Family Foundation, announced the extra scholarship funding on Saturday following a Mass and awards ceremony honoring the Class of 2025 Kazma scholarship recipients.

Jennifer Georgis, chief executive officer of the Catholic Education Foundation, was stunned by the announcement.

“I am thrilled and grateful for the extra funding for our Kazma Family Foundation Scholarship recipients,” Georgis said. “The generosity of the Kazma family lightens the financial burden of our students and parents, and boosts appreciation for the value of a Catholic education.”

Georgis said the additional $2,000 per year applies to all 129 students currently receiving a Kazma Family Foundation Scholarship.

The Class of 2025 Kazma scholarship recipients represent the 18th class of high school students the Kazma Family Foundation has supported and mentored. The scholarships are awarded annually to need-based students with at least a 3.0 grade point average who actively attend their parish or participate heavily in community service.

The students must plan on attending one of the following seven Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Joliet: Benet Academy, Bishop McNamara High School, IC Catholic Prep, Joliet Catholic Academy, Montini Catholic High School, Providence Catholic High School and St. Francis High School.

The Kazma Family Foundation was established in 1997 by Gerald and Margaret Kazma, who at that time named their daughter Leigh-Anne Kazma as president and sole employee. The primary mission of the foundation is to provide financial assistance to needy students and their families.

The Catholic Education Foundation of the Diocese of Joliet is a 501(c)3 charitable corporation incorporated in 1996 and dedicated to the advancement of Catholic education by raising resources to allow children in need to attend Catholic elementary and secondary schools throughout the Diocese of Joliet. The foundation distributes more than 1,600 need-based scholarships each year, totaling nearly $2.2 million.
