Disciples Making Disciples

& Mid-Year Retreat

Disciples Making Disciples:Diocesan Catechist Formation Day, a program from the Religious Education Office of the Diocese of Joliet, is an overview of what it means to be a catechist. You will explore:

  • How did God call you to your vocation as catechist?
  • What is Catechesis? Where do we get the content and what are the teaching methods?
  • How is Christ the Teacher your model for teaching?
  • Four roles of the catechist: Storyteller, Teacher-Companion, Leader of Prayer, Witness for Justice
  • How should Catholics read the Bible?

(Sessions will resume in September)

Please turn your registration in to your local parish director or coordinator of religious education.
Normally, the parish pays for catechists to attend.

Finding and Sharing Your Story of Faith as a Disciple of Jesus Christ

Designed as a follow-up experience, this two-hour retreat gives catechists an opportunity to discover/rediscover where God is working in their lives and to get in touch with their role as a witness for Christ   Normally offered in the Spring.
(Sessions to be announced)

Other Opportunities: Deanery Catechist Formation Days
Each local DRE deanery hosts at least one formation event for catechists every year.
Check with your parish program director to learn what's happening near you.
