What is Exploring Priesthood Weekend?

These retreats are designed to help you further discern God's call in the diocesan priesthood, potentially through formation at Mundelein.

Throughout a weekend of prayer, discussions, faternity, recreation, and presentations from current faculty and saminarians, you will better understand God's movement in your heart as you experience life on campus.

During Exploring priesthood Weekend, you will have the chance to learn about the steps for discernment, values of priestly life, and the structure of seminary formation.  Current seminarians will share their vocation stories, and you will join them at Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and the Liturgy of the Hours.  Mundelein's historic campus with its many chapels will also be open to you for your personal prayer and exploration.

This weekend is an "open house" to give men Junior in College and older an opportunity to learn about Mundelein Seminary and to hear about the priesthood.  Private room and meals included.  There is no cost for the weekend.

Exploring Priesthood Weekends are held at Mundelein Seminary, 1000 East Maple Avenue, Mundelein, Illinois, 60060. The Seminary is located about 40 miles north of downtown Chicago and easily accessible by car or train.  Pickups from O'Hare or Metra provided by Mundelein Seminary.

What Happens on These Weekends?

There are presentations on:

  • Practical steps for discerning a vocation
  • Values of priesthood
  • Seminary life, academics, spiritual formation and pastoral ministry
  • Seminarians share their vocation stories

There are several worship opportunities including the celebration of Mass.  Men are encouraged to ask questions, interact with seminarians and priests, pray in chapels, walk the grounds, or use the recreational facilities (pool, gymnasium, weight room).

See the tentative schedule and welcome letter from Mundelein for more details.  Be sure to read the General COVID Guidelines from Mundelein.
